Elon Hurls Five Brutal Words at Hochul After ‘Tone-Deaf’ Tweet Mere Hours After Woman Burned Alive on F Train
Elon Musk Says NY Gov Kathy Hochul ‘Should be Recalled’ After She Touts ‘Safer’ Subways Mere Hours After Illegal Immigrant Allegedly Burns Sleeping Woman Alive on F Train
New York Governor Kathy Hochul is under fire after touting improvements in subway safety on social media Sunday, just hours after a horrific incident in Brooklyn where a woman was allegedly burned alive on a train.
The timing of Hochul’s post drew immediate criticism, with many questioning the appropriateness of her messaging amidst a series of violent subway crimes.
Elon Musk went as far as to say Hochul ought to be “recalled.”

Hochul highlighted her administration’s efforts to reduce crime on the subway system on X, including deploying the National Guard and installing cameras in subway cars.
“In March, I took action to make our subways safer for the millions of people who take the trains each day,” Hochul wrote at 3:40 pm.
“Since deploying the [National Guard] to support [the NYPD] and [Metropolitan Transportation Authority] safety efforts and adding cameras to all subway cars, crime is going down, and ridership is going up.”

The Post Millennial (TPM) reported that the post was soon flagged with a community note referencing a brutal crime that occurred earlier in the day.
Authorities state that Sebastin Zapeta, a 33-year-old immigrant from Guatemala, allegedly set a sleeping woman on fire at the Stillwell Avenue subway station in Brooklyn around 7:30 am.
The victim died as Zapeta reportedly watched her burn, leading to a widespread call for mass deportations after it was revealed the migrant had previously been deported by the first Trump administration.
The timing of Hochul’s post spurred backlash from both sides of the political spectrum.
Critics accused the governor of being disconnected from the reality faced by subway riders.
New York Democratic Rep. Ritchie Torres, who is rumored to be considering a gubernatorial run, took to X to condemn her remarks.
“Two hours ago, Kathy Hochul took a victory lap for making subways ‘safer,’” Torres wrote.
“She congratulates herself on the same day two subway riders were stabbed in Queens (one in the face and one in the chest) and another was barbarically burned alive. Has there ever been a more tone-deaf Governor in the history of New York?”

Melissa DeRosa, former secretary to Governor Andrew Cuomo, echoed similar sentiments, calling Hochul a “tourist who can’t even bother to read a newspaper while she’s in town.”
DeRosa’s scathing remark referred to the governor’s apparent lack of awareness of the day’s tragic events.
Timing is everything, truly it is.

Prominent voices from across the spectrum joined the fray.
TPM reported that StopAntisemitism, a watchdog group, suggested Hochul might need “a new social media team,” while Lori Mills, the vice chair of the Ventura County Republican Party, remarked, “You must have missed today’s news.”
Conservative radio host Jesse Kelly quipped, “This is why you should never schedule tweets,” underscoring the risks of automated social media strategies during rapidly evolving news cycles.

The juxtaposition of Hochul’s celebratory post with the gruesome subway crime highlighted a larger issue—the perceived safety of New York City’s subway system.
While the governor has made crime reduction a priority, critics argue her administration’s measures have not addressed the deeper systemic issues contributing to violence.
TPM noted that Hochul has taken steps to address crime, including the deployment of an additional 750 National Guard members last week to curb holiday-related offenses.

Her office maintains that overall crime in the subway system has decreased since March, but the recent string of violent incidents paints a starkly different picture for many commuters.
