NYU College GOP President Resigns Amid Backlash Over Calling Barron Trump ‘an Oddity’

The New York University College Republicans are undergoing a leadership shake-up after their president stepped down following backlash over referring to Barron Trump as “an oddity.”

Kaya Walker, a student studying International Relations and French, recently spoke to Vanity Fair in a profile examining Barron’s time at NYU. The magazine described the 19-year-old freshman as maintaining a low profile, often staying in his room but occasionally playing video games and soccer with classmates.

During the interview, Walker remarked, “He’s sort of like an oddity on campus. He goes to class, he goes home,” per the Daily Mail.

Her words sparked immediate criticism from the College Republicans of America, which issued a statement saying that while Vanity Fair “unfairly framed” Walker, her remarks did “not align with the values and principles upheld by our organization.” The NYU College Republicans deemed her comments “inappropriate” and announced her resignation on Sunday.

Following Walker’s departure, College Republicans of America President Will Donahue reached out directly to Barron Trump, inviting him to join the organization and help shape the future of the conservative movement.

“Barron Trump represents the future of the conservative movement, and we would be honored to have him join College Republicans of America,” Donahue said in a statement. “Strong leadership is built on resilience, courage, and the humility to rise above petty hostility—qualities that Barron has already demonstrated.”

It remains unclear whether Barron will accept the invitation. The NYU College Republicans have emphasized their commitment to a seamless leadership transition and are actively seeking new candidates for the role.

Walker, a New England native, previously interned at the Bronx District Attorney’s Office and had ambitions of attending law school, according to the Daily Mail.

Barron Trump has long been a subject of public intrigue due to his reclusive nature. His rare appearances, including a moment on stage with his father during a recent victory speech, have only fueled curiosity about him. Despite his low profile, Barron remains a notable figure within conservative circles.

Speculation about Barron’s social life has persisted, but President Donald Trump dismissed claims that his son has been romantically involved. During an October interview on the “PBD Podcast,” host Patrick Bet-David asked if Barron was “good with the ladies in school at NYU.”

“No, I’m not sure he’s—I don’t think he’s had a girlfriend yet,” Donald Trump responded. “I don’t think so.”

“Every once in a while… He’s a good-looking guy.”

Some of Barron’s NYU classmates have reportedly described him as preferring to stay in his room and play video games rather than engaging with fellow students. However, the College Republicans see potential in his leadership and want him to play a role in shaping the conservative movement on campus.

The College Republicans of America have been staunch supporters of the president, even breaking a century-old precedent by endorsing him ahead of the Republican primary.

In its statement, the group reaffirmed its commitment, stating, “Our support for President Trump is, and has been, a pillar of our organization.”
