Blue State Wants To Jail Those Who ‘Misgender’ Dead People
Colorado Legislators To Debate Bill Regulating Death Records
Just when you thought Colorado couldn’t get any more unhinged, Democrats in the state legislature are now pushing a bill that would literally make it a crime to record biological reality on a death certificate.
That’s right—if a doctor, government employee, or mortician dares to write down the actual sex of a deceased person instead of whatever gender identity they felt like in life, they could face jail time and a fine. Because apparently, in 2024, even science has to bend the knee to woke ideology.
The bill, backed by Democratic state Reps. Karen McCormick and Kyle Brown along with state Sen. Mike Weissman, would require death certificates to reflect the decedent’s gender identity rather than their biological sex. And if anyone—be it a coroner, a doctor, or even a funeral home employee—refuses to comply with this mandated rewriting of reality, they could be slapped with a class 2 misdemeanor, up to 120 days in jail, and a $750 fine.
So let’s get this straight: a coroner, who is trained to report facts about a deceased person, could be thrown in jail for accurately stating whether someone was male or female? Imagine trying to explain to a judge that your “crime” was writing down what was objectively, scientifically true. But of course, in Colorado, facts are apparently hate crimes now.
Dr. Travis Morrell, a Colorado physician and senior fellow with Do No Harm, called this exactly what it is—dangerous, anti-science nonsense. As he pointed out, death certificates aren’t just sentimental paperwork; they’re legal documents that are used in court cases, medical research, and public health data.
The CDC, insurance companies, and researchers use this information to track mortality trends, cancer survival rates, and even the spread of infectious diseases. But now, instead of prioritizing accuracy, Colorado Democrats have decided that keeping the activist crowd happy is more important than medical integrity.
And let’s not pretend this is just some harmless administrative tweak. The left has been pushing to rewrite birth and death certificates for years, claiming that forcing them to reflect biological sex is an invasive obstacle to gender identity. The Human Rights Campaign has been lobbying for this kind of thing since at least 2018, and now, in woke strongholds like Washington, D.C., California, New Jersey, and Rhode Island, death certificates are already required to reflect gender identity rather than reality. But Colorado seems to be leading the charge in making sure that violating this new standard is a punishable offense.
Morrell summed it up best: if therapists aren’t even allowed to affirm a child’s biological sex anymore, why should anyone be surprised that now they’re forcing doctors to lie even in death? This isn’t about kindness or inclusivity—it’s about ideological coercion. The goal is to erase the concept of biological sex entirely, even if that means warping medical data, threatening professionals with legal consequences, and ignoring the very real consequences this will have on legal and scientific accuracy.

Thankfully, the Trump administration put a stop to this insanity at the federal level. One of Trump’s first executive orders after returning to office was to scrap the concept of “gender identity” in government documents, reinstating sex as an inherent physical trait. And for good reason.
As his order put it plainly, allowing men to self-identify as women has already led to a host of problems, from biological males infiltrating domestic abuse shelters to forcing women to share locker rooms with men in the workplace. And now, Democrats want to take this even further—rewriting history itself by forcing doctors and coroners to posthumously lie about who people actually were.
At what point does this stop? If biological reality can be rewritten on a death certificate, what’s next? Will hospitals be fined for recording a newborn’s sex incorrectly according to the parents’ whims? Will police reports be adjusted based on gender identity instead of factual descriptions?
The left has already made it clear that science, logic, and reason mean nothing to them if it conflicts with their ideology. And if you dare to push back? Well, in Colorado, you might just find yourself behind bars for the crime of telling the truth.
