ESPN Host Stephen A. Smith Turns on Dems – Criticizes Their 2028 Presidential Options

Let’s be honest – we all knew the Democratic Party’s bench was weak, but this brutal assessment from within their own ranks is something else entirely. As President Donald Trump settles into his second term, liberal strategists are scrambling to identify a standard-bearer who can effectively lead their party into 2028.

Unfortunately for them, however, their bench appears weaker than ever. Recent polling shows historically low enthusiasm among Democratic voters. Indeed, many of them are expressing deep concerns about the party’s direction and leadership vacuum.

Go figure!

Now, a surprising voice has emerged to confirm what many conservatives have long suspected about the state of the Democratic Party. Much to the surprise of liberals everywhere, it’s coming from deep within the liberal media establishment itself.

ESPN host Stephen A. Smith, known for his fiery sports commentary, delivered a blistering assessment of the Democratic Party’s 2028 prospects. He specifically targeted the former Vice President Kamala Harris, exposing the party’s desperate leadership void in the process.

Smith’s new rant was in response to his own name being tossed around as a potential Democrat presidential candidate in 2028. Needless to say, this did not sit well with Smith.

“If you’re the Democrats, that’s why Stephen A Smith is in the news, because y’all don’t have anybody,” Smith ranted. “You don’t have anybody. Who you got? Who you got? Kamala Harris better not run. She better not run. She’s not going to win a presidency in 2028!”

The Harris Problem

Smith’s criticism comes at a particularly awkward moment for Harris – because nothing says “woman of the people” quite like signing with the same talent agency as Beyoncé, right? The former VP’s recent deal with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) only amplifies the growing disconnect between Democratic leadership and everyday Americans.

“When she ran for election on her own, she couldn’t make it to Iowa in 2020,” Smith pointed out. This was a reference to Harris’s first failed presidential bid. His assessment aligns with recent polling showing Harris struggling to connect with voters across multiple demographics.

When even liberal media stars are jumping ship, you have to wonder: what took them so long? The Democratic leadership vacuum appears more severe than previously thought. Smith didn’t mince words about the party’s current state.

“I’m not in the news because I’m here!” he said, gesturing upward.

“I’m in the news because the Democratic Party is here,” he continued, pointing downward. “They suck right now! Horrible!”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, when pressed about Smith’s comments, notably failed to dispute the substance of the criticism. This was a telling silence from the party’s congressional leadership.

Conservative Solutions Emerge

Here’s the kicker that has Democratic strategists everywhere losing sleep: Smith’s acknowledgment of his own conservative leanings.

“Who the hell told y’all I’d wanna be a Democrat?” he asked rhetorically. “I have conservative ideas. I believe in free market capitalism…I believe in patrolling our borders, I believe in strong national security.”

This admission from a prominent media figure typically associated with liberal outlets has sent shockwaves through Democratic circles. A January 2025 poll conducted by Trump’s former chief pollster John McLaughlin showed Smith polling at 2% among potential Democratic candidates. This is higher than established liberal politicians like Beto O’Rourke and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.

The implications for 2028 are becoming increasingly clear. While Smith himself claims no interest in running for office, his brutal assessment of the Democratic Party’s prospects and his embrace of conservative principles highlight a larger shift in American political dynamics.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, Smith’s candid commentary serves as a wake-up call for Americans concerned about the direction of the Democratic Party. His embrace of conservative principles on critical issues like border security and free market capitalism suggests that common sense solutions are gaining traction, even in unexpected places.

And that just might be the Democrats’ worst nightmare heading into 2028.
