Joy Reid Accused of Blaming Jews for COVID-19 in NYC

Former MSNBC host Joy Reid is facing serious allegations of antisemitism after a former production assistant revealed that she went on a vile, unchecked rant blaming Orthodox Jews for the spread of COVID-19 in New York City.

The shocking accusations, which have only now come to light, paint a troubling picture of the leftist media personality who long claimed to champion so-called marginalized groups.

According to the former MSNBC staffer, Reid made the offensive comments during a morning conference call in the summer of 2020, as the pandemic was gripping the nation.

The ex-staffer, who is Jewish, stated that Reid claimed Orthodox Jews “only care about themselves” and that they were the reason COVID-19 was spreading rapidly in New York.

“I was shocked she called out a group and generalized them,” said the staffer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “And what was even more shocking was that no one on the call pushed back. It was as if it was normal to say something so antisemitic.”

The production assistant, who was relatively new at the time, recalled that about 20 people were present on the call, and yet no one questioned Reid’s comments. “No one called her out, no one even hinted that it might be wrong to single out one group of people like that.

Imagine if it had been another group—would the reaction have been the same?” she questioned.

Feeling intimidated by the power dynamics at MSNBC, the staffer said she refrained from speaking out at the time. However, later that day, she sent a message to then-senior producer Lorena Ruiz, expressing her discomfort and labeling Reid’s comments as “100 percent antisemitic.” Ruiz’s response was telling.

According to the message, Ruiz acknowledged the concern, stating that Reid “can be very careless with her language.” She added, “Luckily, she is generally better on air than on the calls.” The producer then thanked the young staffer for bringing up the issue—but no action was taken.

Reid’s show, The ReidOut, which debuted in July 2020, was initially hailed as a fresh take on race, justice, and culture. However, behind the scenes, hypocrisy appeared to run rampant. The former production assistant pointed out the glaring contradictions in Reid’s behavior, per the New York Post.

“It was a very hypocritical atmosphere,” she said. “She would lecture others on discrimination, but when it came to Orthodox Jews, she had no problem blaming them for spreading a virus.”

Feeling alienated and disillusioned, the staffer even considered resigning over the incident. “I was writing out a resignation text. I didn’t feel comfortable being part of the show after that,” she admitted, adding that her family convinced her to stay.

Now 28 and still working in media, the former staffer said she felt alone at MSNBC, surrounded by people who didn’t understand or seem to care about the implications of Reid’s words. However, with Reid’s recent firing, she finally felt empowered to speak out.

After MSNBC cut ties with Reid, the staffer emailed network president Rebecca Kutler to express her “sense of relief” over the host’s departure. She described Reid’s behavior as “deeply troubling” and lamented the years she remained silent.

“I always felt like something was heavy on my chest,” she said. “I should have spoken up more. I should have gone to someone higher up. I should have confronted her directly.”
