Elon Musk Scraps America Party Plans in Stunning Political U-Turn, Pivots to Supporting Vance’s 2028 Presidential Bid

Elon Musk has abandoned his plans to launch a third political party and will instead focus his considerable financial resources on supporting Vice President JD Vance’s anticipated 2028 presidential campaign.

The Tesla founder intends to return his attention to his business empire after a turbulent period working with President Trump, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Sources indicate Musk has grown cautious about alienating Republican leadership.

Musk has decided to align with other technology executives who view Vance as Trump’s most likely successor.

The Vice President has made recent political moves suggesting a 2028 presidential run.

The former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) head invested nearly $300 million in Trump’s successful 2024 campaign. However, the partnership deteriorated dramatically earlier this year, culminating in Musk posting on X that “Trump is in the Epstein files.”

With Trump constitutionally prohibited from seeking a third term, Musk is reportedly considering directing his wealth toward Vance’s presidential ambitions.

This strategy would place him alongside several prominent tech leaders already backing the vice president.

Silicon Valley heavyweights supporting Vance include Palantir CEO Peter Thiel, former PayPal COO David Sacks, Roku CEO Anthony Wood and entrepreneur Palmer Luckey.

These executives have provided significant financial support to Vance’s political operations.

Current polling data shows Vance as the clear frontrunner for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination, per Daily Mail reporting.

His early positioning has attracted attention from major donors and political operatives.

Musk has engaged in conversations with Vance in recent weeks, according to the Journal report.

The billionaire reportedly believes launching his proposed America Party for the 2026 midterm elections could damage his relationship with the vice president.

Political observers note that Musk’s third-party initiative has shown little organizational progress. No significant work has begun on ballot access requirements or supporter mobilization efforts.

“So my hope is that by the time of the midterms, he’s kind of come back into the fold,” Vance told The Gateway Pundit in a recent interview, referring to Musk’s potential return to Republican politics.

Billionaire Mark Cuban, who had endorsed Musk’s third-party plans, reports receiving no communication about the project’s status.

Other potential collaborators have expressed similar frustrations with the lack of progress.

“It’s almost an eerie silence,” said Libertarian National Committee Chair Steven Nekhaila, whose organization attempted to establish cooperation with Musk’s initiative.

“It doesn’t seem like anything has been in action, neither at the state level or at the ground level,” Nekhaila added, per the Daily Mail.

Associates close to Musk canceled a July meeting with third-party campaign organizers, citing the billionaire’s desire to concentrate on business ventures.

Musk’s potential support for Vance represents another indication that the vice president plans to position himself as Trump’s successor.

In June, Vance made a private visit to Rupert Murdoch’s Montana ranch, meeting with the 94-year-old media mogul and other Fox News executives at the $280 million estate on June 11.

The specific details of their discussions remain undisclosed.

Following the Murdoch meeting, Vance and his wife Usha took a hike in Montana, according to State Auditor James Brown, who helped coordinate the visit.

The ranch has historically served as a venue for influential political gatherings.

The relationship between Musk and Trump has shown signs of improvement following their public dispute.

Trump recently expressed support for Musk’s business success, stating he wants the entrepreneur to “thrive.”

Trump had previously threatened to revoke billions in government contracts awarded to Musk’s companies, including SpaceX, The Boring Company, xAI and Neuralink.

These contracts represent significant revenue streams for Musk’s business empire.

The former partners engaged in a highly publicized confrontation over Trump’s legislative agenda, with both men issuing threats against each other.

The dispute highlighted tensions within the administration’s inner circle.

“Everyone is stating that I will destroy Elon’s companies by taking away some, if not all, of the large scale subsidies he receives from the U.S. Government. This is not so!,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“I want Elon, and all businesses within our Country, to THRIVE, in fact, THRIVE like never before!”

Trump had also suggested using the Department of Government Efficiency against Musk, telling Daily Mail: “We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon.”

The America Party concept emerged from a July 4 online poll Musk conducted among his social media followers asking whether to establish the new political organization.

The results showed 65.4 percent support for the initiative, per the Daily Mail.

“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk wrote following the poll results. “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.”

Musk proclaimed at the time: “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.” However, the party appears to have been abandoned before any meaningful organizational work began.
