FBI Sounds Terror Alarm After US Strikes Iran
The FBI has elevated its counterterrorism posture across the U.S. following U.S. military strikes on Iran, amid growing concerns that Tehran could retaliate through proxy attacks.
An agency official confirmed that FBI counterterrorism and counterintelligence teams are on heightened alert nationwide.
The warning comes after President Donald Trump authorized large-scale strikes on Iranian targets in coordination with Israel as part of Operation Epic Fury.
Iran has long relied on a network of proxy militant groups across the Middle East and beyond to carry out attacks against Western interests.
Federal authorities did not specify how long the elevated alert status will remain in place.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said her department is coordinating closely with intelligence and law enforcement agencies.
“Homeland Security is in direct coordination with our federal intelligence and law enforcement partners as we continue to closely monitor and thwart any potential threats to the homeland,” Noem said.
Under the president’s orders, U.S. forces launched Tomahawk missiles and deployed Air Force and Navy aircraft against Iranian targets.
Iran responded with retaliatory strikes targeting U.S. military bases across the region.
Tehran claimed it struck the U.S. Fifth Fleet service center in Manama, Bahrain, and reported attacks on installations in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.
Regional governments have confirmed missile and drone activity in their airspace.
Footage circulating online shows what appears to be an Iranian drone crashing into a high-rise residential building in Bahrain. Independent verification of all claims remains ongoing.
President Trump acknowledged the risks involved in the operation, the Daily Mail reported.
“The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost, and we may have casualties,” he said in an address following the strikes.
The full extent of casualties from Iran’s retaliatory attacks has not yet been confirmed.
U.S. officials are now focused on preventing potential spillover into domestic threats.
Security analysts have long warned that Iranian-aligned groups, including Hezbollah and other regional militias, have the capability to conduct asymmetric attacks beyond traditional battlefields.
Law enforcement agencies across major metropolitan areas are reportedly reviewing security protocols and monitoring potential threat indicators.
The Department of Homeland Security has not announced specific new travel or infrastructure restrictions at this time.
Federal authorities are urging vigilance but have not advised the public to alter daily activities.
The situation remains fluid as Iran and Israel continue exchanging fire and U.S. forces remain deployed throughout the region.
Officials say additional security measures could be implemented depending on how events unfold in the coming days.
