GOP Senator Drawn Into Chaotic Capitol Confrontation as Veteran Protestor Reportedly Suffers Broken Arm
A dramatic moment unfolded at a Senate Armed Services Subcommittee hearing when Montana Sen. Tim Sheehy (R) stepped in to assist Capitol Police in removing a protester, resulting in a visible injury.
The protester, Brian McGinnis—a Marine Corps veteran and Green Party Senate candidate from North Carolina—reportedly broke his arm during the altercation, which was captured on video.
Footage shared online shows McGinnis refusing to leave the hearing room, shouting, “No one wants to fight for Israel,” as officers attempted to escort him out.
Sheehy can be seen securing McGinnis’ arm and guiding him away from a door frame, at which point a loud cracking sound is heard.
Witnesses confirmed that McGinnis’ arm or wrist was injured during the struggle, according to the Daily Inter Lake.
Dressed in what appeared to be a Marine uniform, McGinnis continued to express support for a Free Palestine as he was removed.
Capitol Police confirmed that the veteran received treatment for an injury, while three officers involved also required medical attention.
“This afternoon, an unruly man who started to illegally protest during a hearing put everyone in a dangerous position by resisting officers’ attempts to remove him,” the Capitol Police said.
McGinnis faces three counts of assaulting a police officer and three counts of resisting arrest, obstructing, and incommoding during an unlawful demonstration.
Senator Sheehy reposted a video of the incident on his social media account, explaining his involvement.
“Capitol Police were attempting to remove an unhinged protestor from the Armed Services hearing,” he wrote on X. “He was fighting back. I decided to help out and deescalate the situation. This gentleman came to the Capitol looking for a confrontation, and he got one. I hope he gets the help he needs without causing further violence.”
McGinnis served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2000 to 2004 before becoming a firefighter and anti-war activist, House and Whips reported.
According to reports, he initially attended the hearing as an observer but stood up to challenge U.S. military policy, declaring, “America does not want to send its sons and daughters to war for Israel.”
The incident has raised questions about whether Sheehy, a Republican and former Navy SEAL, overstepped his role as a sitting senator by physically intervening.
Critics argue that a civilian—even a veteran—should not be subjected to combat-style restraint by an elected official.
Supporters contend Sheehy acted instinctively to maintain order and assist law enforcement.
Protests are prohibited inside Congressional buildings, with demonstrations only permitted in designated areas on Capitol grounds.
The Capitol Police emphasized that McGinnis’ actions violated these rules and posed a risk to both lawmakers and staff, The Daily Montanan reported.
After being removed, McGinnis was transported to George Washington University Hospital for treatment.
The event has sparked widespread debate about the appropriate limits of intervention by elected officials, the rights of protesters in government buildings, and the responsibilities of law enforcement in managing disruptive situations.
Videos of the altercation continue to circulate, drawing attention to the tension between public protest and maintaining order during legislative proceedings.

How can Brian McGinnis say he is speaking for US veterans when he is Muslim First and Palestinian First?
Here is a video I found on his Muslim wife’s social media account where he is wearing his military uniform while waving a Palestinian flag.
