FBI Director Kash Patel has made it clear that countering Chinese influence within the U.S. is a top priority of his leadership. One major focus has been on the growing concern over Chinese-owned farmland, especially land near sensitive military or strategic locations.
This effort aligns with President Donald Trump’s broader second-term agenda, which seeks to confront and neutralize the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) growing presence on American soil.

Patel’s actions are seen as a crucial part of national security strategy, not just in protecting infrastructure, but also in securing the nation’s food supply.
According to his advisor Erica Knight, Patel’s experience in intelligence and counterterrorism gives him a unique edge in leading the FBI’s efforts against foreign infiltration, especially from hostile regimes like China’s.
Knight emphasized Patel’s “uncompromising” dedication to rooting out CCP interference. She described his leadership as relentless and vital for protecting America from internal threats masked as international partnerships or commercial ventures. The concern is not just about land, but what that land could be used for.
Patel recently testified that while progress has been made in securing the southern border, America’s adversaries are now turning their attention to the U.S.-Canada border. This shift, he noted, is part of how strategic rivals like China, Russia, and Iran are adapting their tactics to exploit new vulnerabilities, as Fox News reported.
When asked aboard Air Force One about the administration’s approach to Chinese-owned farmland, President Trump said he monitors the issue “all the time.”
He acknowledged it has been a concern “for years,” and while he maintains a respectful relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant.
Trump’s comments reinforce the administration’s position that foreign ownership of American land, particularly by adversarial nations, is not just an economic or agricultural issue—it’s a matter of national defense. He made it clear that China’s involvement in U.S. land ownership is under constant review.
This concern has been echoed by others in the administration. Ric Grenell, Presidential Envoy for Special Missions, wrote in a February op-ed for Fox News that Chinese land ownership is part of a “not-so-silent takeover.”
Grenell argued that the threat goes beyond real estate and is part of a broader CCP strategy to gain influence within the United States.
Lawmakers have begun introducing legislation in response to these threats. In March, South Dakota Sen. Mike Rounds (R) introduced the PASS Act, which would prevent entities from “covered countries” like China from purchasing farmland near military bases or critical infrastructure.
The PASS Act has bipartisan support and would empower the Department of Agriculture to refer suspicious land deals to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. for national security review. It reflects the growing consensus in Washington that foreign land ownership must be more tightly regulated.
Additionally, Republican senators have proposed the Not One More Inch or Acre Act. This legislation, introduced in January by Sens. Tom Cotton, Kevin Cramer, and Katie Britt, would force the sale of land owned or influenced by the CCP if it’s deemed a national security risk.
Together, these legislative efforts demonstrate a multi-pronged approach: law enforcement through the FBI, executive oversight from the Trump administration, and legal reforms from Capitol Hill. Patel’s leadership is central to this strategy.
Patel has repeatedly said that defeating CCP infiltration is not just a political goal—it’s a duty to protect the homeland. Under his direction, the FBI is working to expose and shut down any CCP-connected threats embedded within the U.S.
