Pam Bondi Takes Dramatic Action Against Blue City and its Liberal Leaders
Pam Bondi Furthers Her Illegal Alien Crackdown by Suing New York and its Liberal Leaders: ‘it Stops Today’
In a bold move signaling the Justice Department’s aggressive stance on immigration enforcement, newly appointed Attorney General Pam Bondi announced a federal lawsuit against New York State, targeting its controversial “Green Light” law that allows illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses while restricting federal access to state records.
The lawsuit, filed Wednesday, names Governor Kathy Hochul, Attorney General Letitia James and Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Mark Schroeder as defendants.
This legal action follows similar suits filed last week against Illinois and Chicago over their sanctuary policies, TTOA previously reported.
“This is a new DOJ and we are taking steps to protect Americans,” Bondi declared during her first press conference as Attorney General.
She directly accused New York of “prioritizing illegal immigrants over U.S. citizens,” adding emphatically that “it stops today.”
The announcement was made alongside federal law enforcement officials and featured Tammy Nobles, an “Angel Mom” whose daughter was killed by an illegal immigrant gang member.
Nobles, who recently appeared in a White House video, shared her personal tragedy during the press conference, putting a human face on the consequences of illegal immigration.
The Justice Department’s primary target is New York’s “Green Light” Law, which not only permits illegal immigrants to receive driver’s licenses but also prevents federal immigration authorities from accessing DMV data.
Bondi specifically included the state’s DMV commissioner in the lawsuit due to his role in implementing these restrictions, the Daily Mail reported.
When pressed about the specific remedies sought by the Justice Department, Bondi remained firm but somewhat vague, stating that next steps would depend on New York’s response while emphasizing the state’s obligation to comply with federal law.
Her warning extended beyond New York’s borders as she put other states on notice that the DOJ stands ready to take action against any jurisdiction not complying with federal immigration laws.
The lawsuit comes at a significant moment, just one day after the Justice Department requested federal prosecutors drop corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams; a shocker outlined earlier this week by TTOA.
Adams had previously indicated his willingness to cooperate with the president’s immigration enforcement efforts prior to Trump taking office, suggesting a potential shift in the administration’s approach to working with local leaders who show alignment with federal immigration policies.
Bondi, who previously served as Florida Attorney General and as one of Trump’s attorneys, has wasted no time implementing the administration’s agenda since her confirmation just one week ago.
TTOA highlighted late last week that the department’s recent lawsuit against Illinois, Cook County and Chicago claimed that sanctuary laws “interfere” with Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s ability to arrest and deport illegal migrants.
The move represents a significant escalation in the ongoing battle between federal authorities and states implementing sanctuary policies.
