RFK Jr. Scores Huge Victory With Game-Changing Confirmation News
Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s nomination to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) just got a major boost, and ironically, it’s the Democrats who are making it easier for him to get confirmed. Despite facing an aggressive grilling from Senate Democrats during his confirmation hearings, RFK Jr. has won over a critical Republican swing vote—Senator Susan Collins (R-ME). That alone could be enough to push him across the finish line.
“He answered my questions well,” Collins said, according to Florida’s Voice’s Eric Daugherty. That’s Washington-speak for “I’m probably going to vote for him,” which means the Democrats’ attempts to torpedo his nomination are backfiring in real-time.
Kennedy’s hearings before the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee were supposed to be an opportunity for Democrats to expose him as unqualified. Instead, it turned into a circus, with Senators like Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Michael Bennet (D-CO) going after him with every tired, left-wing talking point they could muster. The problem? RFK Jr. came prepared, and he wasn’t about to let them distort his record.
When Wyden tried to accuse Kennedy of lying about his stance on vaccines, RFK Jr. fired back, explaining that a comment he made on a podcast had been taken out of context and that he had repeatedly corrected the record. “Bringing this up right now is dishonest,” Kennedy said, exposing Wyden’s shameless bad-faith argument.
Then Bennet jumped in, accusing Kennedy of calling COVID-19 a “genetically engineered bioweapon.” Once again, Kennedy had the receipts. “I just quoted an NIH-funded and NIH-published study,” he shot back, leaving Bennet grasping for a response.
Even CNN had to admit that Democrats blew it. Republican strategist Brad Todd pointed out that instead of trying to find common ground with Kennedy, leftists like Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT) went full attack mode, making him more confirmable in the process. “If she wanted to sink him, she should have hugged him,” Todd joked. But Warren and Sanders, as always, were more interested in pandering to their base than actually playing smart politics.
Another factor working in Kennedy’s favor? The disastrous state of Biden’s administration. Democrats have made such a mess of the past few years that figures like RFK Jr., who talk about reforming government agencies and bringing accountability back to the table, suddenly don’t sound so radical. As CNN grudgingly admitted, Kennedy has become “more confirmable” because of these glaring missteps by his opponents.
Now, with Collins likely on board and other moderates weighing their options, Kennedy’s confirmation is looking more likely by the day. Democrats wanted to make an example out of him—but instead, they’ve made him stronger. If he pulls this off, they’ll only have themselves to blame.
