Trump and Musk Drop Game-Changing Proposal That Has X Divided
Trump and Musk Propose Sending 20% of Government Savings to Taxpayers in Bold New Plan
In a groundbreaking proposal, President Donald Trump pondered a plan to send a portion of savings from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) directly to U.S. taxpayers in the amount of $5000.
Speaking at an event in Miami Beach, Florida, Trump revealed that 20 percent of the funds saved through DOGE’s cost-cutting measures could be returned to American households, sparking widespread attention and debate.
“There’s even under consideration a new concept where we give 20% of the DOGE savings to American citizens, and 20% goes to paying down debt, because the numbers are incredible,” Trump told reporters, according to Fox News.
The concept of a “DOGE dividend” first took off on X earlier this week, with many users suggesting a potential payout of $5,000. Elon Musk, involved in the conversation, said he would “check with the president” about the idea.

During the event, Trump was asked directly about the proposal, and he expressed enthusiasm.
“I love it,” Trump said. “A 20% dividend, so to speak, for the money that we’re saving by going after the waste, fraud and abuse and all of the other things that are happening.”
“I think it’s a great idea.”
He also suggested that such a dividend could motivate Americans to report government waste and inefficiency.
TTOA reported that DOGE has saved $55 billion by targeting wasteful spending across various government departments, including the Department of Education, USAID and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. However, some of these cost-cutting efforts are currently under legal scrutiny.
The organization is scheduled to dissolve by July 4, 2026, according to Fox News. Trump has not yet clarified what would happen to the remaining 60 percent of DOGE’s savings if the plan is implemented.
The proposal has divided opinions on social media. Some have praised the plan as a way to put more money back into the hands of American families.
“Yes. A brilliant move to put American families first!” said Republican Overseas CEO Solomon Yue.
Yes. A brilliant move to put American families first! Americans overseas who are in the current tax system will get Trump's $5000/family DOGE cash, too. Expats who are not in the tax system won't. Neither will illegal aliens who haven't been deported yet. https://t.co/CuPcnmFlyk https://t.co/elDy4Iy8gI

“If Trump manages to cut government waste and lower the federal budget, give everyone a one-time $5,000 DOGE Savings Check, lower taxes, and grow the economy while shrinking the national debt, he’ll go down in the history books,” another user commented.

On the other hand, critics have expressed concerns over the size of the payout.

“Trump should be pissed at Elon for speaking about $5,000 and not $1,000 or checking with him first,” one user remarked, suggesting the payout could be reduced.
Others warned that sending out large payouts could fuel inflation.
“As much as I could use $5,000, this is not a good idea,” one critic said.
“It would make inflation WORSE. Trump knows this.”

It gets revealed that the tax system is defrauding the American people, and you’re going to be pacified with a $5000 handout?

While the proposal remains controversial, the focus on government savings and reducing waste continues to drive the conversation. Trump has not yet provided further details about how the remaining funds from DOGE will be allocated if he were to implement the 20 percent payout.
