Trump Campaign Cancels September Debate With Kamala Harris, Gives Good Reason Why

The Trump campaign has decided not to proceed with Trump’s debate against Kamala Harris scheduled for September 10, citing the Democrat Party’s yet-to-be-formalized nomination of Harris as their presidential nominee.

The September 10 debate was originally supposed to feature Trump and Biden, but since Biden has dropped out, Kamala has replaced him.

Trump communications director Steven Cheung said in a statement, “Given the continued political chaos surrounding Crooked Joe Biden and the Democrat Party, general election debate details cannot be finalized until Democrats formally decide on their nominee.”

Cheung also noted Obama has yet to endorse Harris.

Chueng added, “is a strong sense by many in the Democrat Party … that Kamala Harris is a Marxist fraud who cannot beat President Trump, and they are still holding out for someone ‘better.”

Per AP:

Vice President Kamala Harris told reporters on Thursday that she’s “ready to debate Donald Trump.”

She accused him of “backpedaling” away from a previous agreement for a debate hosted by ABC News on Sept. 10.

“I think the voters deserve to see the split screen that exists in this race on the debate stage,” she said after landing at Joint Base Andrews following a trip to Indiana and Texas.

The Sept. 10 debate was one of two debates that President Joe Biden and Trump had agreed on. The first one was hosted by CNN on June 27, but Biden has since dropped out of the race and endorsed Harris as his successor.

Trump has said he would prefer to shift the debate to Fox News, but he would be willing to face off with Harris more than once.

Harris did not respond to a question about having Fox News host a debate.

Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement late Thursday that debate arrangements “cannot be finalized until Democrats formally decide on their nominee.”

Here’s what The Desk reported:

Former President Donald Trump has decided to withdraw his participation from a television debate scheduled for mid-September, according to a note from his campaign.

On Thursday, Campaign Communications Director Steven Cheung said it was too early for Trump to commit to appearing at the debate because Vice President Kamala Harris has not been formally named as the Democratic Party’s nominee for the 2024 White House race.

“Given the continued political chaos surrounding [President] Joe Biden and the Democratic Party, general election debate details cannot be finalized until Democrats formally decide on their nominee,” Cheung wrote in a note to reporters late Thursday evening.

Earlier this year, Trump agreed to participate in at least two debates — one produced by CNN that was held in June, and the upcoming debate organized by ABC News. Trump is suing ABC News for defamation, and suggested this week that the TV debate be moved to the Fox News Channel.
