Georgia School Shooter to Cops: ‘I Did it’

14-year-old Colt Gray has admitted to authorities that he was responsible for the deadly shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia.

“I did it,” Gray reportedly said.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, left four people dead and at least nine others injured.

Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith has said Gray confessed to the crime despite being read his Miranda rights, as highlighted by Daily Mail.

“He was still talking,” Sheriff Smith told CNN, highlighting the unusual nature of the suspect’s behavior following his arrest.

The victims of this tragic event have been identified as students Mason Schermerhorn, 14, and Christian Angulo, 14, along with teachers Richard Aspenwall, 39, and Christina Irimie, 53.

The community is reeling from the loss of these young lives and dedicated  educators.

In a disturbing revelation, it has come to light that the weapon used in the shooting was a Christmas gift from Gray’s father, Colin Gray, 54.

The elder Gray has been taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including two counts of murder, four counts of involuntary manslaughter, and eight counts of cruelty to children.

These charges stem from allegations that he knowingly allowed his son access to the firearm used in the attack.

The incident has raised serious questions about gun control and parental responsibility.

Investigators have uncovered that both Colt and Colin Gray were interviewed by local law enforcement just months before the shooting, per Daily Mail.

This reportedly followed a tip from the FBI about alleged online threats.

The tip pointed to a Discord account associated with an email linked to Colt Gray, where threats to “shoot up a middle school” were reportedly made.

Daily Mail further noted that despite these previous concerns, Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum defended the handling of the earlier investigation, stating, “We did not drop the ball at all on this. We did all we could do with what we had at the time.”

The case was closed due to inconsistent information and lack of grounds to confiscate the family’s guns.

The shooting unfolded around 10:23 am on Wednesday, with Gray reportedly opening fire shortly after leaving his algebra class.

Eyewitness accounts from students paint a terrifying picture of the events, with one student describing how Gray attempted to re-enter a classroom before firing into an adjacent room.

As the community grapples with this tragedy, a makeshift memorial has been established outside the school grounds.

Students and families have been visiting to pay their respects to the lives lost.

The incident has once again thrust the issue of gun violence in schools into the national spotlight.

President Joe Biden issued a statement condemning the violence and calling for new gun safety legislation.

“We cannot continue to accept this as normal,” the President declared, emphasizing the need for action to address what he termed an “epidemic” of gun violence.

As the investigation continues, authorities are focusing on Gray’s apparent obsession with other infamous school shooters, particularly Nikolas Cruz, the perpetrator of the Parkland, Florida massacre.

The discovery of clues in Gray’s home suggesting this fixation has added another layer of complexity to the case.

The young suspect remains in juvenile custody, awaiting his first court appearance scheduled for Friday morning.

Despite his age, officials have stated that Gray will be charged as an adult, reflecting the severity of his alleged crimes.
