After Squad Member Blames Deaths on Israel – Fact Checkers Expose the Inconvenient Truth
In the wake of Hamas’s attack on Israel, progressives have become outspoken in their criticism of Israel. Some have blamed Israel for a terror attack that resulted in over 1,000 civilian deaths.
Others seemingly defended Hamas, making no distinction between the group and Palestinian civilians. At the moment, Israel is preparing to invade Gaza to root out Hamas. They have informed Palestinian civilians for days, so they can evacuate the region.
But one progressive Democrat from Congress has claimed Israel committed “child genocide” in Palestine. Now, fact-checkers on X are exposing this heinous claim.
From Fox News:
‘Squad’ member Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., drew criticism for retweeting a photo of dead children with the caption “CHILD GENOCIDE IN PALESTINE.”…
A community note from X, formerly known as Twitter, stated that the picture was from a 2013 sarin gas attack in Ghouta, Syria, and not from the Israel-Hamas war.
Fellow ‘Squad’ member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., warned about the “incredibly high” amount of misinformation on social media about the ongoing war and urged her followers to “pause” and “check” for verification.
Progressive Democrat Ilhan Omar posted photos claiming Israel was killing Palestinian children. But Community Notes–X’s thorough, fact-checking system–revealed that this was false. The photos were from an attack in 2013 in Syria.
Omar is facing intense criticism for spreading out-right false information, to attack Israel. The Democrat has a long history of spreading anti-Israel comments. She has also tried to pass legislation forcing America to join the BSD movement–which aims at crippling Israel’s economy.
But this is not the only progressive seeming to side with Israel’s enemies. Many leftists have attacked Israel’s reports that helpless civilians were murdered by Hamas. More false information has been spread by progressives online, claiming photos of the horrific attack had been faked.
X’s Community Notes service has been working overtime to correct these false claims. It appears other social networks have not been as diligent in refuting misinformation and disinformation aimed at Israel.
To date, X’s Community Notes has issued hundreds of corrections on thousands of posts, just in the days following the Hamas attack. The social network has been working overtime to correct false claims that try to misrepresent the shocking events in Israel.
The fact that an American congresswoman has taken part in spreading this false information has not been ignored by many. Users have sharply criticized Omar, and other leaders, who are pushing misinformation in defense of Israel’s enemies.
