AOC’s ‘Bronx Girl’ Claims Under Fire After High School Yearbook Photos Surface

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) faces renewed questions about her background after yearbook photos emerged showing she attended high school in an affluent suburban community, contradicting her frequent portrayal as a “Bronx girl.”

The controversy erupted following a social media exchange between the Democratic representative and President Donald Trump, where Ocasio-Cortez defended herself by invoking her alleged Bronx roots.

Trump had criticized Ocasio-Cortez in a lengthy Truth Social post after she called for his impeachment, describing her as “one of the dumbest people in Congress” and questioning her intelligence and educational background.

The President’s post also targeted her test scores and suggested she take a cognitive assessment similar to one he claims to have recently completed successfully.

Trump grouped Ocasio-Cortez with other progressive legislators including Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), accusing them of promoting harmful “radical” policies.

Ocasio-Cortez responded to Trump’s attack by writing: “Also, I’m a Bronx girl. You should know that we can eat Queens boys for breakfast. Respectfully.”

Her response gained significant attention on social media platforms, though not necessarily the type she intended to generate.

New York State Assemblyman Matt Slater quickly challenged her claim by posting a photograph from the 2004 Yorktown High School yearbook.

The yearbook image shows a young Alexandria Cortez, the name she used before adopting her hyphenated surname Ocasio-Cortez.

Slater accompanied the yearbook photo with a direct question: “@AOC if you’re a BX girl then why are you in my Yorktown yearbook? Give it up already.”

Yorktown Heights sits approximately 40 miles north of New York City in Westchester County, known for its suburban character and higher income levels compared to the South Bronx.

Trending Politics highlighted that the community represents a stark contrast to the urban, working-class environment Ocasio-Cortez frequently references in her political messaging and campaign materials.

This revelation has reignited discussions about the congresswoman’s biographical claims that first surfaced during her 2018 congressional campaign.

Ocasio-Cortez has previously acknowledged that while she was born in the Bronx, her family relocated to Yorktown when she was approximately five years old.

She has stated that her parents made this move specifically to provide her with access to superior public school education opportunities.

The congresswoman has consistently maintained her identification with the Bronx despite spending her formative years in the Westchester County suburb.

During her initial congressional run, various media outlets reported on her split upbringing between the two vastly different communities.

Ocasio-Cortez has not issued any direct response to Slater’s yearbook revelation or addressed the renewed scrutiny of her background claims.

TTOA covered a national poll earlier this year that revealed Ocasio-Cortez as the second-most popular potential Democratic presidential candidate for 2028.

The Quantus Insights survey, conducted April 21-23, shows former Vice President Kamala Harris leading the field with 30 percent support among likely Democratic voters.

Ocasio-Cortez, the progressive firebrand and member of “The Squad,” secured 14 percent support, outpacing established politicians including former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA).

Vice President JD Vance later dismissed talk of a potential 2028 presidential bid by Ocasio-Cortez as “the stuff of nightmares.”
