Brittney Griner’s Wife Cherelle Gives Grim Update On WNBA Star” “The crime and the punishment is disproportionate, she’s 100% not okay”
Brittney Griner’s wife Cherelle gave a grim update on the WNBA star after her appeal failed and it seems likely she will spend 8 years in the harsh conditions of a Russian penal colony.
Speaking to the attendees of Glamour’s 2022 Women of the Year Ceremony in New York, Cherelle said: “I’ve spent the last eight months riding waves of grief and to be honest, just total disbelief. I can’t believe that I’m standing in front of you guys and living without my favorite person, my greatest love, my sanctuary.” She added that while Brittney is strong she is “100% not okay.”
Cherelle said on The View: “She said her mental health, it’s not there, you know? And she told me, like, ‘I’m really just trying to hold on to the last bit of you that I can remember, you know?’ She’s like, ‘My mind is fading in here.’ And, you know, it’s just so disheartening to hear.
“I understand being in the field of law that every state, every country has their own rules, but this is just absurd.
“The crime and the punishment is disproportionate at its finest … There are people convicted of murder in Russia who have a sentence way less than B.G., and it just makes absolutely no sense to me.
“That was the complete end of it. There’s nothing more to expect from a legal standpoint and all eggs are in basket, you know, for our government and for America to see how important this issue is.
“This could happen to anybody and we should be praying that we have a country that recognizes the importance of that and are willing to actually go get our Americans and bring them back home.
“To see that the totality of the circumstances of who she is as a person was not taken into account when they rendered a decision, it makes me feel like this – at this point – has to be political.
“It’s not her footprint. Her footprint is amazing for Russia. She’s paying taxes there.
“She’s great for Russia.
“I’m grateful that my wife was willing to go overseas and make sure that I could go to law school and that we could have a home and things like that,” she said.
