Court Gives Trump Team Another Opportunity To Remove Fani Willis From Georgia Case

Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis has attracted widespread allegations of political bias and conflicts of interest as she seeks a conviction of Donald Trump on allegations of election interference.

The former president’s legal team has pushed back with efforts to remove Willis from the case, and an appeals court recently offered a new avenue through which attorneys could potentially achieve that result.

As the Daily Mail reported:

The Georgia Court of Appeals has given a green light to Donald Trump’s case to remove Fani Willis from his election fraud trial in the latest blow to the Fulton County DA.

Willis has courted controversy while prosecuting the county’s election interference case against Trump after it was revealed she had a past relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.

She escaped with just a slap on the wrist after Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee dramatically ruled she could stay on the Trump election interference case if Wade removed himself.

Trump and eight of his co-defendants charged in the Georgia state court have since urged the appeals court to overturn McAfee’s March ruling.

Now the court has given Trump’s appeal the green light to go ahead, but there is not yet a set timeline for when the case will be heard.

The news comes on the heels of reports that Willis’ former lover resigned from the Trump case.

Trump’s attorneys have filed a motion to have Willis removed from the case and provided a public statement, per Fox News:

“President Trump looks forward to presenting interlocutory arguments to the Georgia Court of Appeals as to why the case should be dismissed and Fulton County DA Willis should be disqualified for her misconduct in this unjustified, unwarranted political persecution,” Trump lawyer Steve Sadow said in a statement.

McAfee’s ruling in March said the defendants “failed to meet their burden of proving that the District Attorney acquired an actual conflict of interest in this case through her personal relationship and recurring travels with her lead prosecutor.
