Elon’s Fate if Certain Americans Had More Pull Revealed
Most Libs Want Elon Musk Thrown in Prison, New Poll Finds
A newly released Rasmussen Reports–Heartland Institute survey reveals that a significant majority of self-identified liberals—81 percent—support the idea of imprisoning Elon Musk over his work with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The survey also found that 71 percent of Democrats agree with this hypothetical law.
The survey results indicate a sharp political divide over Musk’s role in the federal government. While Democrats and liberals favor criminal penalties, 75 percent of those who voted for Donald Trump in the last presidential election view Musk favorably.
The survey results suggest that many on the political left believe Musk should face imprisonment solely for his participation in government reform initiatives.
Justin Haskins, the primary author of the survey and a senior fellow at The Heartland Institute, expressed concern over the findings.
“The fact that a majority of Democratic voters would support imprisoning Elon Musk for trying to make government more efficient is a shocking indictment of the modern left,” said Haskins.
“We’ve reached a point where many Americans would rather unjustly punish innovation than fix the broken systems Musk was trying to reform.”
Musk has served as the head of DOGE since Trump’s second-term inauguration.
He has since launched a series of reforms aimed at reducing bureaucratic waste and increasing transparency in federal spending.
Musk oversaw the elimination of 12 redundant federal agencies, according to a March 2025 White House report.
These closures are projected to save U.S. taxpayers roughly $180 billion annually.
In addition to structural changes, Musk’s office deployed artificial intelligence audits across multiple federal departments.
One audit revealed $45 billion in misallocated funds within the Department of Education.
Those funds were subsequently redirected to infrastructure initiatives..
DOGE also introduced a new transparency mandate requiring 28 federal agencies to publish real-time spending data on public-facing websites.
This marks the first time in U.S. history that such financial reporting has been made available to the public in a live format.
Further cost-saving efforts included renegotiating federal contractor fees.
Rift News outlined that under Musk’s leadership, the federal government secured a 15 percent reduction in these fees, saving an additional $22 billion over a three-year period.
Despite these financial achievements, Musk has faced growing opposition from Democratic voters.
The Rasmussen–Heartland poll comes at a time when Musk and his private enterprises are experiencing increased hostility, including acts of violence and sabotage.
Since inauguration day, there have been more than 50 reported attacks on Tesla-related properties across the United States.
These incidents include vandalism, arson, and even gunfire targeting Tesla vehicles, dealerships, and charging stations.
At least 17 additional attacks have occurred internationally, some involving Molotov cocktails and extensive graffiti.
In response to these incidents, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi labeled the acts as “domestic terrorism.”
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has since launched a task force to investigate the attacks and coordinate with local law enforcement.
The Heartland Institute has drawn attention to what it describes as a disturbing trend of authoritarianism on the political left.
The organization argues that the push to criminalize policy disagreements sets a dangerous precedent for American civil liberties.
The survey did not ask whether Musk’s reforms were unlawful or unethical, but focused solely on the level of public support for imprisonment based on his role in DOGE.
