FBI Prevents Mass Shooting Targeted at Michigan Military Base

The FBI has disrupted a planned mass shooting allegedly targeting a U.S. military base in Michigan.

The suspect, a former member of the Michigan Army National Guard, is accused of attempting to aid the terrorist group ISIS.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the arrest and warned that anyone plotting attacks against the U.S. military or collaborating with foreign terrorist groups would face full prosecution under federal law.

The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said, was taken into custody after allegedly planning an attack near the Detroit Arsenal in Warren, Michigan.

The base houses the U.S. Army’s Tank-Automotive & Armaments Command, known as TACOM.

According to authorities, Said took steps to carry out the attack, including conducting drone surveillance and advising on weaponry needed for the assault.

He reportedly told an undercover agent to prepare at least seven magazines to avoid running out of ammunition, per Trending Politics.

The FBI said Said believed the undercover agent was a fellow supporter of ISIS. Their communications began in June 2024 and continued as Said laid out plans for the attack.

Patel credited the Joint Terrorism Task Force and law enforcement partners for preventing what could have been a deadly assault. He emphasized the FBI’s commitment to preventing domestic terror plots.

Court documents allege that Said provided armor-piercing rounds, magazines, and other tactical support. He also offered guidance on how to breach the military base and which building to target inside TACOM.

In addition to weapons and tactics, Said reportedly instructed the undercover agent in constructing Molotov cocktails for use during the planned assault.

Said is charged with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and with distributing information related to the creation of a destructive device.

If convicted on both counts, Said could face up to 40 years in federal prison, with each charge carrying a maximum penalty of 20 years.

Authorities said Said used a drone to fly over the military installation in preparation for the planned shooting. This reconnaissance was considered a key part of the operational planning.

The FBI noted that Said played a central role in the development of the plot, contributing to logistical, tactical, and ideological aspects of the attack.

Federal officials emphasized that there was no immediate threat to the public following Said’s arrest. The investigation is still active.

Said reportedly expressed loyalty to ISIS and discussed the importance of targeting U.S. military facilities. He also voiced anti-American sentiments during conversations with undercover personnel.

FBI Director Patel reiterated that law enforcement will continue working around the clock to identify and intercept individuals who seek to carry out acts of terrorism within the United States.

The Department of Justice will handle the prosecution of the case, with support from counterterrorism experts and federal investigators.

No additional suspects have been named, and the FBI has not disclosed whether other military facilities were being considered as potential targets.
