Harvard President Stunned by D.C. Move – Her Scandal Suddenly Gets Even Worse
Harvard President Claudine Gay has faced tremendous backlash in recent weeks. The university president was criticized, along with many other school presidents, for failing to condemn anti-Semitism on her campus.
But things got worse as critics began to accuse Gay of plagiarism.
The accusations are mounting, as some call for her resignation. Now, her problems have gotten much worse as House Republicans get involved.
From Daily Wire:
The GOP-led House widened an investigation into Harvard University with a new line of inquiry regarding plagiarism allegations levied at the school’s president, Claudine Gay, dating back to the 1990s when she was a student…“If a university is willing to look the other way and not hold faculty accountable for engaging in academically dishonest behavior, it cheapens its mission and the value of its education. Students must be evaluated fairly, under known standards – and have a right to see that faculty are, too.”
Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx has sent a letter to Harvard demanding answers on the plagiarism accusations against President Gay. Foxx had already been leading an investigation into the growing displays of anti-Semitism on college campuses.
But she has widened her investigation to include this scandal surrounding Gay. She called out Harvard for possibly allowing its president to get away with stealing the content of other writers.
The congresswoman even suggested Harvard’s federal funding could be in jeopardy, as a result of this situation. She wants to know if the school—which stresses academic integrity among its students—is holding its leadership to the same standards.
Many have piled on after accusations arose that Gay plagiarized in several of her written works. Other authors have come forward, accusing the Harvard president of stealing from them. The school admitted it knew about these accusations months ago.
However, it does not appear as if the school is willing to reprimand Gay over these egregious actions. As the controversy continues to grow, it will become harder for Harvard to do nothing. Already reports suggest that early enrollment for next year is down. Should the school decline to confront Gay’s actions, it could damage its reputation permanently.
Key Takeaways:
- House investigators are setting their sights on Harvard president Gay’s alleged plagiarism.
- Rep. Virginia Foxx is demanding answers from the school, which appears to be ignoring the claims.
- Numerous reports have come out accusing Gay of stealing work from other authors.
