PH: Trump Meets with Surprise Candidate – Could This Be His Next Running Mate?
With Donald Trump in the lead for the GOP primary, many expect news soon about big decisions. Trump has made promises to voters on what he’d do in his second term. But his supporters are eagerly awaiting other news from the former president.
The biggest, for now, is whom he’ll pick to be his running mate. Many have floated the names of top Republican contenders.
But there’s been no official word, yet. Now, news is coming out that Trump met with an unexpected, yet well-known, former presidential candidate. And what they spoke about is getting the rumor mill churning.
From The Washington Post:
Former president Donald Trump and top advisers have spoken with former Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard about foreign policy and how the Defense Department should be run in a second Trump term, according to people familiar with the matter. The talks with Gabbard — who has staked out a role as an outspoken critic of aid to Ukraine and U.S. military interventions overseas — are part of a broader conversation about how Trump would manage the Pentagon differently if voters award him a second term.
In what might come as a shock to many Americans, Trump and his advisers spoke with former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard. She is a former Democrat who ran for president in 2020. Gabbard has become popular among conservatives for her right-of-center views on many issues and her ongoing criticisms of the Biden administration.
According to reports, she spoke with Trump about foreign policy and the DOD. Gabbard previously served in the Armed Forces and is outspoken in her views on American interventionism.
For Trump to go to her for insight into how to run the Pentagon is eye-opening, however. It suggests Trump is giving Gabbard considerable say in how he’d run his future administration.
What could that mean, but that he is considering her for a role in his administration? Is it possible that Gabbard could become Trump’s next running mate? Pundits have speculated that Trump could pick someone outside the GOP, including presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Picking Gabbard could actually be a smart move. Trump will bring in many conservative supporters, enough to clinch the GOP vote. But Gabbard might attract plenty of liberals and moderates who don’t want to give Biden another term.
