Republican Grabs Unexpected Lead in Big Blue State – GOP Candidate Williams Sprints Ahead By 5 Points in NY

Over the past few weeks, the trend is clear: polling shows the “red wave” is back and building once again, thanks in part to dire economic predictions and declining approval for the Biden administration.

This comes after a late-summer surge by Democrats that gave liberals hope — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi even predicted that Democrats would hold the House and Senate.

However, we’re seeing a significant change in voter sentiment, and it’s even affecting big blue states.

New York has been a Democrat stronghold for years and many consider it to be as “unwinnable” for the GOP as California. But that doesn’t mean Republicans can’t make forward strides.

For example, in a surprise polling result, Republican Brandon Williams holds the lead in New York’s 22nd Congressional District.

Williams is a relative unknown and yet, he’s out to a good-sized lead over Democrat candidate Francis Conole. Right-wing residents hope this could be an indication of a deeper shift throughout the state.

From Breitbart:

Republican Brandon Williams leads Democrat Francis Conole in New York’s Twenty-second Congressional District by five points, according to the Spectrum News/Siena College poll released on Tuesday.

The Spectrum News/Siena College poll found that Williams leads with 45 percent of the 453 likely voters in New York’s newly redistricted Twenty-second Congressional District saying they would vote for him, while 40 percent said the Democrat.

While many voters aren’t familiar with these two candidates, the GOP candidate’s lead is worth noting in the Democrat-dominated state.

It’s even more interesting when we consider that Williams dominates the Independent voter category: 51 percent of independents support him, while only 28 percent would vote for his leftist opponent.

Perhaps the “red wave” is being fueled in part by fears that the country isn’t going in the right direction.

The poll in question found that 63 percent of respondents feel the U.S. is on the wrong track, and only 25 percent said it’s on the right track. That typically reflects poorly on the party that holds power.

Additionally, 63 percent said the economy and inflation were either #1 or #2 on their list of most important issues. And the latest news in this area isn’t helping voter confidence in Democrats.

Former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said this is the reason why Democrats are in a difficult position right now.

And she added that if the midterm elections is basically a referendum on President Biden, Democrats will lose. Instead, she believes they’ll win if they focus on “extremist” MAGA voters in the country.

Either way, there’s no doubt that right now, Republicans appear to be back in the driver’s seat, and we’re seeing substantial gains even in hard-blue areas around the nation.

Key Takeaways:

  • Republican Brandon Williams leads his Democrat opponent in New York’s 22nd Congressional District.
  • His lead of 5 might represent a changing sentiment in the deep blue state.
  • Voters are increasingly worried about inflation and the economy, both of which are coming under the microscope just before midterms.
