Trump Slams Fox News Reporter Over ‘Fake Spin’ Interview With Mark Kelly

President Donald Trump launched a scathing criticism of Fox News over the weekend, targeting reporter Peter Doocy for what he called a “politically correct” interview with Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly (D) amid an ongoing government shutdown battle.

Trump’s comments came as the standoff between Republicans and Democrats entered its second week, with each side accusing the other of holding up critical funding measures.

Doocy’s interview with Kelly, aired Sunday, focused on healthcare subsidies that Democrats want restored as part of a shutdown-ending deal—provisions Republicans argue should be debated separately from federal spending.

The exchange drew attention for what some viewers saw as a lack of pushback on Democratic talking points, prompting Trump to express his frustration on Truth Social.

Doocy, who has earned praise from conservatives for his tough questioning of the Biden administration, is typically regarded as one of Fox’s more assertive correspondents.

His even-tempered approach during the Kelly interview surprised some Trump supporters who have come to see him as one of the few mainstream reporters willing to challenge Democratic narratives.

“Why is FoxNews and Peter Doocy putting on Democrat Senator Mark Kelly to talk about, totally unabated or challenged, Healthcare?” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The FAKE SPIN is so bad for Republicans that it is hard to believe that we WIN.”

The president accused Fox of giving Democrats an easy platform while benefiting from its Republican audience.

“They suck up the Ratings because of us, and then spin them in the Democrats’ direction,” Trump said. “They refuse to put up Polls that correctly show me at 65% in Popularity, a Republican RECORD.”

Trump’s latest remarks mark another flashpoint in his increasingly strained relationship with Fox News.

Once his primary media ally, the network has increasingly faced scrutiny from Trump over what he views as “politically correct” coverage, Trending Politics notes

The president’s legal team has also sued Fox owner Rupert Murdoch, alleging defamation stemming from a Wall Street Journal article about Trump’s past association with financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Supportive voices in conservative media echoed Trump’s claim that Democrats were responsible for prolonging the shutdown, insisting their push for healthcare subsidies would direct taxpayer dollars toward illegal immigrants.

GOP leaders have argued that the dispute underscores a broader pattern of Democratic obstruction aimed at undermining border enforcement and fiscal restraint.

“It will be very unfair, in the future, when they don’t have ‘TRUMP’ to fight for them,” Trump continued. “Fox should either get on board or get off board, NOW, but at this point, it just doesn’t make any difference to me.”

Trump concluded by suggesting Fox’s audience remains loyal because of his movement, not the network’s editorial direction.

“Republicans are so tired of this fight with Fox always trying to be so ‘politically correct!’” he wrote. “Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

The feud highlights a recurring tension between Trump and major media outlets as he continues to shape the Republican Party’s message heading into the next election cycle.

Observers note that while Trump’s criticism may put pressure on Fox, it also underscores his enduring influence over the GOP base.
