Trump’s Hard-to-Believe Reaction After His ‘Ice Maiden’ Tells Vanity Fair Prez Has ‘Alcoholic’s Personality’ – Here’s Why He’s Not Upset

President Donald Trump expressed unwavering support for White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles during a Tuesday phone interview, dismissing any controversy surrounding her recent characterization of him having an “alcoholic’s personality” in a magazine profile.

The president made clear he took no offense to the description that appeared in a piece by author Chris Whipple.

Trump explained his well-known abstinence from alcohol stems from personal family tragedy.

Trump emphasized he has long acknowledged this aspect of his character.

The president referenced the 1981 death of his older brother Fred, who died at 42 from an alcohol-induced heart attack, as the primary reason he never drinks.

“No, she meant that I’m — you see, I don’t drink alcohol. So everybody knows that — but I’ve often said that if I did, I’d have a very good chance of being an alcoholic. I have said that many times about myself, I do. It’s a very possessive personality,” Trump stated.

The president continued clarifying his self-assessment, noting he considers himself fortunate to avoid alcohol given his personality type.

Trump described himself as having what he termed an addictive and possessive personality, something he said he has discussed publicly on numerous occasions.

Wiles, known as the “Ice Maiden” whose late father Pat Summerall was an NFL player and broadcaster who battled alcohol addiction publicly, shared her perspective with Whipple during 11 conversations throughout the year.

She described herself as experienced with strong personalities.

“High-functioning alcoholics or alcoholics in general, their personalities are exaggerated when they drink. And so I’m a little bit of an expert in big personalities,” Wiles told the author.

The profile also included Wiles describing Vice President JD Vance as “a conspiracy theorist for a decade” and suggesting Attorney General Pam Bondi “whiffed” on handling files connected to Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump indicated he had not personally read the piece but criticized both the publication and the author’s approach.

The president suggested Whipple, known for his 2017 book about White House chiefs of staff, had been deliberately misleading.

“I think from what I hear, the facts were wrong, and it was a very misguided interviewer, purposely misguided,” Trump said Tuesday, according to the New York Post.

When directly asked whether he maintained full confidence in Wiles, the president responded emphatically in the affirmative.

Trump characterized his chief of staff as fantastic and suggested the author may have deceived her about the interview’s true purpose.

The president criticized the magazine itself, stating it has lost both its direction and readership.

He noted Wiles conducted only brief interviews with Whipple and typically avoids media appearances.

Administration officials quickly rallied behind Wiles following the article’s publication.

Insiders widely credit her with quietly resolving conflicts among officials and avoiding the constant infighting that characterized Trump’s first term.

Wiles has adopted a notably different management philosophy than her first-term predecessors.

She told the Post in April she actively encourages more people to speak with the president rather than limiting access.

“I view my responsibility as making sure he gets unvarnished information and complete truth,” she said.

“And however many people it takes to get there, and whoever they are — of course, within reason. We actually encourage it.”
