Hollywood Legend Found Dead – Homicide?
Hollywood Legend and Wife Found Dead – Homicide Suspected
Los Angeles police are investigating the deaths of acclaimed Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer as a double homicide after their bodies were discovered inside their Brentwood estate Sunday evening.
Authorities confirmed late Sunday that the bodies of a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman found in the couple’s $13.5 million mansion belonged to Reiner and Singer.
Law enforcement sources indicated both victims appeared to have suffered knife wounds.
People reports that the couple’s daughter Romy, who resides across the street from her parents, made the grim discovery inside the sprawling six-bedroom property.
Just weeks earlier, Romy had posted on social media expressing gratitude for “family and health.”
A family spokesman released a statement confirming the tragedy. “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” the spokesman said.
“We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
The Los Angeles Police Department has launched a full-scale homicide investigation, with a significant police presence remaining at the scene throughout Sunday evening.
Property records obtained by the Daily Mail confirm the couple owned the residence where their bodies were found.
At a press conference, LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton stated that investigators had not yet identified a suspect in the murders.
He confirmed that no individuals had been interviewed as suspects and no arrests had been made.
“We’re going to try to speak to every family member that we can to get to the facts of this investigation,” Hamilton said during the briefing.
Hamilton explained that the bodies remained inside the home as investigators awaited a warrant to reenter and begin their detailed examination after determining there was no ongoing threat.
He emphasized the crime scene remained undisturbed from its original state when officers first arrived.
LAFD paramedics were initially dispatched to the Chadbourne Avenue mansion at 3:38 p.m.
Within minutes of arrival, fire department personnel called LAPD officers to the scene for what was designated as an “ambulance death investigation.”
A neighbor reported to ABC7 that several Hollywood figures visited the crime scene, including Larry David and Billy Crystal, who starred in Reiner’s romantic comedy classic When Harry Met Sally.
The neighbor claimed Crystal “looked like he was about to cry” before departing the location.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued a statement expressing her grief over the deaths.
“Rob Reiner’s contributions reverberate throughout American culture and society, and he has improved countless lives through his creative work and advocacy fighting for social and economic justice,” Bass said, calling the loss “heartbreaking” and “devastating.”
The LAPD declined to officially identify the victims, noting that responsibility falls to the LA County Coroner.
Reiner had just released Spinal Tap II: The End Continues in September, a sequel to his groundbreaking 1984 mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, which he co-wrote, directed and appeared in.
The director followed his father Carl Reiner into the entertainment industry, establishing himself as both an actor and filmmaker. Rob Reiner first gained fame playing Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All In The Family from 1971 to 1978, earning two Emmy Awards and five Golden Globe nominations.
Reiner transformed his career in the 1980s, becoming one of Hollywood’s most sought-after directors.
His impressive filmography includes Stand By Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), Misery (1990), A Few Good Men (1992), The American President (1995) and The Bucket List (2007).
Reiner met Michele Singer, a photographer, on the set of When Harry Met Sally in 1989.
The couple married that same year and had three children together: Jake, Nick and Romy.
Reiner also adopted Tracy Reiner, daughter from his previous marriage to actress Penny Marshall, who died in 2018.
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) paid tribute to the director Sunday night. “Jen and I are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner,” Newsom wrote, describing Reiner as “the big-hearted genius behind so many of the classic stories we love.”

Former President Barack Obama released a statement acknowledging Reiner’s impact. “His achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen,” Obama said. “Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose.”
