Jim Jordan Checkmates Manhattan DA, Subpoenas Alvin Bragg’s Star Prosecutor Who Abruptly Resigned Last Year
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) subpoenaed former New York County Special Assistant District Attorney Mark Pomerantz to appear before the Committee for a deposition.
Pomerantz led the investigation into former President Donald Trump’s finances before resigning in protest after Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg chose not to move forward with charges against Trump. Bragg changed his mind and indicted Trump on 34 counts.
Pomerantz publicly criticized Bragg for failing to aggressively prosecute President Trump and even wrote a memoir describing his eagerness to investigate President Trump and disclosing internal deliberations about the investigation.
Pomerantz’s public statements about the investigation strongly suggest that Bragg’s prosecution of President Trump is politically motivated. The Committee requested Pomerantz’s voluntary cooperation in a letter on March 22, 2023, but he refused to comply at the direction of the New York County District Attorney’s Office.
The Manhattan DA’s Office has acknowledged that it used federal forfeiture funds in its investigations of President Trump, including during Pomerantz’s tenure.
The Committee is conducting oversight of Bragg’s unprecedented prosecutorial conduct to inform the consideration of potential legislative reforms that would, among other things, prevent state or local politically motivated prosecutions of current or former presidents.
The letter Jordan sent to Mark said:
“As a result, the New York County District Attorney’s unprecedented prosecutorial conduct requires oversight to inform the consideration of potential legislative reforms that would, if enacted, insulate current and former Presidents from such politically motivated state and local prosecutions.
“Based on your unique role as a special assistant district attorney leading the investigation into President Trump’s finances, you are uniquely situated to provide information that is relevant and necessary to inform the Committee’s oversight and potential legislative reforms.
“Although the New York County District Attorney’s Office has directed you not to cooperate with our oversight, you have already discussed many of the topics relevant to our oversight in a book you wrote and published in February 2023, as well as in several public interviews to promote your book.
“As a result, you have no basis to decline to testify about matters before the Committee.
…”Accordingly, for these reasons, and in light of your disregard of our earlier voluntary request, please find attached a subpoena compelling your appearance for a deposition,” the letter said.

The Justice Department wasn't going to bring this case.

The previous District Attorney Cy Vance wasn't going to bring this case.
And even Alvin Bragg himself, when he first gets elected, didn’t want to bring the case.
But you know who did want to bring it? Mark Pomerantz.
BREAKING: House Judiciary chair Rep. Jim Jordan has subpoenaed Mark Pomerantz, who resigned from the Manhattan DA's office in February 2022 over Bragg's then reluctance to pursue the case against Trump.
