Watch: Whoopi Goldberg Hits Trump With Threat For Comment On Social Security

The View’s Whoopi Goldberg blasted former President Donald Trump on Tuesday for his recent remarks on the mismanagement of the Social Security system.

“We could put you in jail,” the talk show co-host threatened in response to a clip of Trump’s phone interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” where he expressed concern about the poor management of entitlement programs over the years.

In the interview, Trump stated, “The bad management, the tremendous bad management of entitlements, there’s tremendous amounts of things, number of things you can do,” seemingly suggesting reforms to entitlements.

Responding to the clip, Goldberg remarked, “Yeah, we could put you in jail — for all of your entitlements.”

“You know, Social Security is not an entitlement, we paid for that,” the co-host continued. “We paid for that. Every time you get a check, you paid into the … you know, this is your money!”

Goldberg’s criticism did not touch upon various other entitlements, including federal welfare programs, which provide funds, resources, or services to individuals who did not contribute in the same manner as Social Security.

During his CNBC interview, Trump was asked about potential changes to “entitlement programs” like Medicare and Social Security. He stated, “There is a lot you can do in terms of entitlement, in terms of cutting and in terms of also the theft and the bad management of entitlements.”

He added, “I know that they’re going to end up weakening Social Security because the country is weak.”

Trump’s campaign spokeswoman, Karoline Leavitt, clarified that Trump was discussing cutting waste, not entitlements, in his response.

Leavitt asserted, “President Trump delivered on his promise to protect Social Security and Medicare in his first term, and President Trump will continue to strongly protect Social Security and Medicare in his second term.”

“The only candidate who poses a threat to Social Security and Medicare is Joe Biden,” she added.
