GOP Governor Rocks Nation with Big Decision – She’s Sending Major Help to 1 Red State
A Republican governor from a northern state is joining forces with a southern state to fight the ongoing border crisis. The plans are to send troops south to the border to counteract the invasion of illegal immigrants.
The situation at the border has deteriorated to such dangerous levels that Republican governors from around the country are lending support to border states. The arrival of troops is intended to send a message that GOP-run states are standing together.
The show of support comes at a time when southern border states need extra resources to handle the surge of illegal immigrants. This troop support is expected to bolster needed military personnel to battle the border crisis.
Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD) is fulfilling a previous pledge to deploy South Dakota National Guard troops to help along the border. She’s sending 60 soldiers to Texas this spring to help over the course of three months to “stand up and stop” the border invasion.
From the Washington Examiner:
“The border is a warzone, so we’re sending soldiers,” Noem said in a press release. “These soldiers’ primary mission will be construction of a wall to stem the flow of illegal immigrants, drug cartels, and human trafficking into the United States of America.”
She has been a public critic of the president and his open border policies that have caused, according to her press release, a 452% increase in border encounters. She said the number of encounters swelled to 300,000 in December, the most in history for a single month. All of this has happened under Joe Biden’s watch after taking office.
Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott has been forced to police the border to protect Texas residents and citizens deeper into the United States. He is locked in multiple legal battles with the Biden administration over Texas policies to stem illegal immigration with border barriers such as razor wire.
Noem has visited the border several times and after each visit she noted that “the situation has deteriorated more and more.” Noem’s pledge to support Texas follows a coalition of more than two dozen Republican governors backing Abbott’s policies regarding the border.
While the show of troop force may not seem like a large gesture, the fact that Noem is sending troops sends a loud message to the White House. Governors from across the country know that the border crisis bleeds into their states and causes problems. Maybe this show of unity from Noem and other Republicans will make a difference.
