Zelensky Admits He Doesn’t Know Where $200 Billion in US Aid Went as X Alleges ‘Money Laundering’

In a candid interview with the Associated Press, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky raised questions about the allocation of U.S. aid to Ukraine. Zelensky revealed that while Ukraine has received substantial support from the U.S., he is uncertain about the full extent of the funds and where some of them have gone.

During the interview, Zelensky said that the U.S. has provided Ukraine with more than $75 billion in aid. He clarified that this aid did not come in the form of cash but rather weapons, valued at about $70 billion.

However, Zelensky expressed doubt over claims that Ukraine received $200 billion to support its military.

“When I hear – both in the past and even now – from the U.S. that America has provided Ukraine with hundreds of billions, as the president of a nation at war, I can tell you – we’ve received more than $75 billion,” Zelensky stated, according to Breitbart News.

Zelensky further admitted that he is “uninformed” about the details of certain U.S. aid programs, particularly those that may have gone toward humanitarian initiatives.

“Perhaps it’s true on paper with hundreds of different programs – I won’t argue, and we’re immensely grateful for everything,” he said. “But in reality, we received about $76 billion.”

“It’s significant aid, but it’s not $200 billion.”

The Ukrainian president suggested that some of the additional funds could have been allocated to humanitarian programs, which he claimed he knows little about except for their general existence.

This comes at a time when the Trump administration has vowed to investigate the use of U.S. taxpayer dollars, particularly regarding the spending and oversight during the Biden administration.

The issue of missing funds is not new. Zelensky speculated that organizations operating in Ukraine may have received U.S. taxpayer money, noting that many international organizations fled the country after the Russian invasion in 2022.

“Perhaps the U.S. President’s administration will audit these programs and find additional billions, but I don’t know where those funds went,” he said.

Since the Russian invasion, the U.S. Congress has authorized nearly $175 billion for Ukraine-related spending, but much of this money has been directed to American defense firms, according to the outlet.

Nearly 70 percent of Ukraine’s aid was spent in the U.S., according to an analysis by the American Enterprise Institute. These funds were used to replenish U.S. weapons stockpiles, purchase new weapons for Ukraine and support Defense Department accounts.

Concerns about corruption within Ukraine have been persistent, particularly given the country’s long-standing issues with graft. Transparency International ranked Ukraine as the second-most corrupt European nation in 2023, with a score of just 33 out of 100.

U.S. officials have voiced similar concerns. The House of Representatives Oversight Committee has found evidence of Ukrainian government officials allegedly engaging in bribery, misusing government vehicles and inflating food supplies for Ukrainian forces.

Moreover, reports from the New York Times revealed that some U.S. taxpayer money intended for military contracts failed to produce the promised weaponry or ammunition, with some funds going unaccounted for.

As the conversation around these issues grows, some have raised the possibility of “money laundering,” a notion that has gained traction on social media. Many users on X have shared similar conclusions, calling into question the transparency of the funds and whether some of the money might have been misused.

Despite these concerns, Zelensky maintained that Ukraine is grateful for the aid it has received, though the transparency of its use remains in question.
