The GOP primaries are set to heat up in a few weeks. But it appears Trump is already the nominee. He has secured the most delegates so far, with polls showing him running away with the race. Only Nikki Haley continues to oppose him, trailing far behind.

For a long time, supporters have speculated on Trump’s next running mate. Plenty of names have been floated around—including some outsider candidates.

But a poll was taken to see who voters want Trump to pick. The names in the list will be familiar to most Republicans. The top winner, however, will be a major surprise. The question, of course, is will Trump listen to the people?

From Washington Examiner:
With former President Donald Trump leading GOP primary opponents by a mile in 2024 election polls, some voters are already considering who he might pick as his running mate, and one name stands out in a list of 14 potential selections.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) leads the pack, followed at a distance by Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy.

“It wasn’t very close,” said the latest I&I/TIPP’s national online poll.

Polling firm I&I/TIPP conducted a survey of whom Trump should pick as his running mate in the 2024 Election. They had fourteen names to choose from. The winner, by a wide margin, was Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. Second was Nikki Haley.

DeSantis received 34% of the vote, with Haley ten points behind. A surprising sixth-place winner was Tucker Carlson—who at one time was rumored to be Trump’s pick.

Some Americans might be surprised to see DeSantis in first place. Trump has mercilessly attacked his former ally, even before DeSantis entered the GOP primaries. But DeSantis is a very popular governor, who won reelection in 2022 by over a million votes.

DeSantis is considered a successful leader, helping Florida during various crises, including COVID and damaging hurricanes. Picking him could pull in many voters who are currently on the face of a second Trump administration.

But will Trump pick DeSantis? Well, Trump already has the conservative vote all by himself. Normally, candidates will pick a running mate who can bring in other voters. Trump might go with a stalwart conservative or he might surprise many and pick a moderate or even liberal-leaning politician.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
