CNN Reporter Hurls Nasty Attack at Karoline Leavitt as WH Announces Major Game Changer for Future Briefings

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt made many headlines on Tuesday after delivering a fiery first briefing on President Donald Trump’s second term.

One of those sparked after CNN’s Kaitlan Collins accused Trump of carelessly breaking the law, grilling Leavitt about Trump’s purge in firing 17 inspectors general.

How is the administration “deciding which laws to follow and which ones to ignore?” the CNN reporter asked, to which Leavitt replied, “He is the executive of the executive branch and therefore he has the power to fire anyone within the executive branch that he wishes to.”

Leavitt also announced during the conference that new media outlets, independent journalists and social media influencers will now have a seat at the table in White House press briefings.

The 440 reporters whose media credentials were revoked under the Biden administration will have their passes reinstated, Leavitt, the youngest White House press secretary in history at age 27, said.

The packed press room reflected the administration’s new approach, as Leavitt emphasized the commitment to broadening media access.

“This White House believes strongly in the First Amendment. It’s why our team will work diligently to restore the press passes of the 440 journalists whose passes were wrongly revoked by the previous administration,” she stated.

Leavitt also underscored the declining trust in legacy media and reaffirmed that the Trump administration welcomes independent journalists, podcasters and content creators to cover the White House.

As part of the changes, the administration introduced a designated “new media seat” in the press briefing room.

This seat will be prioritized for smaller, digital-first outlets that have historically struggled to gain access to White House press events.

Among the first outlets granted access to these seats were Breitbart and Axios, with representatives from The Post Millennial, The Daily Wire and other emerging news platforms also in attendance.

The reinstatement of media passes reverses a policy enacted by the Biden administration, which removed hard press passes from 440 journalists.

The Post Millennial reported that at the time of those revocations, legacy media outlets largely remained silent, despite widespread coverage and criticism when then-CNN reporter Jim Acosta had his pass revoked in 2018.

Leavitt also took questions from the press, including one from a legacy media journalist who asked if she would commit to telling “the truth” to the American people.

In response, she asserted that the administration would be transparent and truthful, adding, “We ask that all of you in this room hold yourselves to that same standard. We know for a fact that there have been lies that have been pushed by many legacy media outlets in this country about this president, about his family, and we will not accept that.”

She reinforced that the administration would actively challenge misinformation.

“We will call you out when we feel that your reporting is wrong or there is misinformation about this White House,” Leavitt warned.

As President Trump’s second term begins, the administration’s approach to media relations appears poised to redefine the landscape of White House press coverage.

With independent journalists and influencers now officially recognized alongside legacy outlets, the battle over information and media access in Washington is set to take on a new dimension.
