A tragic incident unfolded on a Lufthansa flight to Germany when passengers witnessed a 63-year-old man suddenly begin to bleed profusely from his mouth and nose, according to reports by the Switzerland-based outlet Blick.

The event occurred around midnight, leaving those on board in a state of shock and horror. Martin Missfelder, a passenger who was traveling with his wife, a nurse, described the scene as “absolute horror.”

“It was absolute horror,” Martin Missfelder said.

Karin Missfelder, who works as a nursing specialist at the University Hospital in Zurich, quickly noticed the man’s rapid breathing and cold sweats. She suggested to a flight attendant that a doctor should examine him. Despite these efforts, including the administration of chamomile tea, the man’s condition rapidly deteriorated, leading to him spitting blood into a bag held by his wife.

“They gave him a little chamomile tea, but he already spit blood into the bag that his wife held out to him,” Martin Missfelder recounted.

Flight attendants attempted CPR for approximately 30 minutes, but their efforts were in vain. The nurse, recognizing the futility of the situation, noted the silence that enveloped the aircraft following the captain’s announcement of the man’s death.

The deceased’s wife later explained that her husband had been feeling unwell, possibly exacerbated by their rush to catch the flight. Following the incident, the man’s body was moved to the galley, and the aircraft returned to Thailand, landing at 8:28 a.m. Friday. Passengers experienced a two-hour delay before being rebooked on another flight to Germany, with a stopover in Hong Kong.

Reflecting on the incident, the nurse expressed regret for not intervening sooner, despite noticing a doctor attending to the man. She questioned the decision to proceed with the flight given the man’s visibly poor condition.

“I should have intervened, but I saw that a doctor was looking after him, so I didn’t want to get involved,” the nurse stated. “The man looked so bad, I don’t understand why the captain took off.”
