Three Arrested After Missing Student Found Dead at University of Georgia Campus
Three people have been taken into custody on Friday near the site where Laken Hope Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student, was found dead on the University of Georgia campus after she went missing during a jog.
Officials identified her body near a lake at 12:38 p.m. on Thursday. The circumstances surrounding her death have led authorities to investigate the possibility of foul play.
“Evidence at the scene indicated foul play,” Athens-Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson told the New York Post on Friday morning.
Riley was a student at the Augusta University College of Nursing in Athens, which is also home to the University of Georgia. The discovery of her body was reported by Atlanta First News.
Her disappearance was initially reported by her roommate, sparking concern and leading to the investigation. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is now involved, assisting with the case to uncover further details.
Wilson, while speaking to the Post, declined to provide more details on the condition of Riley’s body, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. The exact cause and manner of Riley’s death remain pending, awaiting further examination and investigation results.
Riley’s tragic death has prompted a thorough investigation by local authorities, with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation lending its expertise to the case. At present, it is uncertain whether the three individuals arrested on Friday were connected to the suspected murder of Riley.
