The arrest stems from a “comprehensive investigation” launched in April 2024 by the Louisiana State Police Narcotics/Violent Crime Task Force, targeting a sophisticated drug trafficking operation that utilized social media platforms for distribution and payment processing.
Law enforcement officials say the organization distributed various illegal substances, including opioids, high-grade marijuana, THC products and MDMA.
The operation’s profits were allegedly used to purchase firearms, which were then channeled to individuals legally prohibited from possessing them.
Police reports indicate some of these weapons have been connected to violent crimes in the area, CBS News highlighted.
Truong, who made history as Bogalusa’s youngest mayor after his unexpected victory over incumbent Wendy Perrette in 2022, now faces multiple charges including transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses, unauthorized use of a moveable and soliciting for prostitutes.
CBS added that the investigation led to seven arrest warrants in total, with six other individuals facing charges related to drug proceeds.

Three suspects have been charged with conspiracy to distribute a Schedule I controlled substance, while another faces an additional charge of distribution of a Schedule II controlled substance.
The arrests come at a critical time for Louisiana, which reported 2,456 drug-involved deaths in 2023, highlighting the severity of the state’s ongoing battle against illegal drug trafficking.
District Attorney Collin Sims emphasized the continuing nature of the investigation, stating, “We are going to continue to invest time and resources into helping the citizens of Bogalusa.”
“We are not finished.”

All seven suspects will be processed at the Washington Parish Jail, with online records confirming Truong’s booking on Tuesday afternoon.
