MAGA Dark Horse Faces Political Crisis After He’s Plunged Into Gay Porn Scandal

A growing scandal involving pornographic social media content is creating significant challenges for Virginia’s Republican leadership, particularly Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who has been considered a potential presidential contender for 2028.

The controversy centers around John Reid, the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor in Virginia, who is facing allegations that he operated a social media page containing explicit images of men.

Youngkin asked Reid to withdraw from the race last Friday after learning about the disturbing online content. 

The governor became aware of the concerning material late Thursday and requested Reid step down during a call the following morning, according to a statement from Youngkin’s Spirit of Virginia PAC.

Reid, who is openly gay and married, has categorically denied ownership of the account. 

In a five-minute video posted on X, the former radio host claimed the account was fabricated by hardline Republicans attempting to derail his campaign.

“I can tell you that’s not my account,” Reid stated in his video response. 

He explained that individuals had approached him warning that the account could damage his campaign prospects.

The disputed Tumblr account, using the handle “jrdeux,” contains numerous gay pornographic images. 

This username notably matches handles Reid has used on other platforms including Instagram and Threads.

The Daily Mail reported that adding credibility to the connection, Reid’s husband, Alonzo Mable, has previously tagged his spouse in social media posts using the “jrdeux” moniker, further complicating Reid’s denial of involvement.

Despite the mounting evidence and pressure from Republican leadership, Reid has steadfastly refused to withdraw from the race. 

His defiance has created a significant dilemma for Governor Youngkin, who must now navigate treacherous political waters.

The political fallout intensified over the weekend when Matt Moran, who headed Youngkin’s Spirit of Virginia PAC, resigned after being accused of pressuring Reid to remove himself from the GOP ticket. 

Moran has publicly denied making such efforts to force Reid’s withdrawal.

This scandal arrives at a particularly sensitive time for Youngkin, who cannot run for a consecutive gubernatorial term under Virginia law. 

Many political observers believe he may be positioning himself for a presidential bid in 2028 after President Donald Trump completes his second term.

The Daily Mail highlighted that polling, however, suggests Youngkin is far from a frontrunner in any potential 2028 Republican primary. 

Figures like Vice President J.D. Vance and Donald Trump Jr. currently appear to have stronger support among Republican voters as potential heirs to the Trump political legacy.

In a recent interview with NBC News, President Trump himself named Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as potential figures to continue his MAGA agenda, notably omitting Youngkin from his short list of preferred successors.

The scandal has placed Youngkin in an uncomfortable position between supporting his party’s nominee and distancing himself from controversy that could taint his national political aspirations. 

Republican officials reportedly attempted to pressure Reid to step aside, but these efforts have “spectacularly backfired.”

Politico noted that despite the controversy, Youngkin’s PAC has indicated the governor will “support the nominees and their ticket” in the Virginia race, with Youngkin stating, “At the end of the day, Republicans need to win. And that’s the bottom line.”

The current lieutenant governor, Winsome Earle-Sears, is running to succeed Youngkin as the commonwealth’s next governor when his term concludes, adding another layer of complexity to the party’s internal dynamics.

Reid, who would become Virginia’s first openly gay candidate elected to statewide office if successful, has suggested that Youngkin’s political operation is threatening him with additional damaging information to undermine his electoral chances.

In his defense, Reid stated: “I demanded to see the evidence, and someone created a social media account with my Instagram name, a name which I’ve had for years, but this fake account reposted nude pictures of other people, models and porn models.”

Reid further defended himself, saying, “I can tell you, that’s not my account, and anyone on the internet can open accounts with the same or similar names as other people,” suggesting the possibility of impersonation or a deliberate smear campaign.
