WATCH: Legal Expert SHREDS Alvin Bragg, Reveals Hillary Clinton Did Exact Same ‘Crime’

Jury selection began Monday in New York City for former President Donald Trump’s trial on charges stemming from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s investigation. The charges relate to alleged hush money payments made ahead of the 2016 presidential election. This trial marks the first of the election year for Trump, the 2024 presumptive Republican presidential nominee, who has pleaded not guilty to all counts.

In a detailed analysis aired on Fox News, legal analyst Gregg Jarrett criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for applying a double standard in the case against former President Donald Trump. Jarrett drew parallels between this case and the lack of prosecution of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, regarding her campaign’s involvement in the Steele Dossier.

The case against Trump, which involves a $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels as part of a confidentiality agreement during the 2016 election campaign, has been marked by prosecutorial overreach and political motivations according to Jarrett.

“I’ve never seen such a tangled, torturous prosecution that would be brought against no other person except Trump. It’s punitive, politically driven,” Jarrett said. Bragg’s case pivots on turning a “business record misdemeanor” into thirty-four felony charges, an action that the Fox News analyst contends distorts legal norms.

“To do that he had to attach it to a supposed election law violation… It’s not a campaign donation,” Jarrett explained, echoing sentiments from the Federal Election Commission and the Department of Justice that initially found no wrongdoing in the payouts.

During the segment, Jarrett and host Eric Shawn discussed the role of Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer and a key witness in the case. Cohen, who has faced legal troubles of his own, is seen by Jarrett as an unreliable witness prone to shifting his statements.

“Cohen, who was never much of a lawyer, is good at only one thing, lying prodigiously… He recanted what he stated in his sworn plea deal,” Jarrett said.

Manhattan Judge Juan Merchan, whose impartiality has been questioned by Trump’s legal team due to his daughter’s work with Democrat-affiliated political groups and alleged “hostility” toward Trump, is presiding over the case. In April of the previous year, Bragg charged Trump with 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree, related to the alleged payments.

As he prepared for the start of his first criminal trial, Trump sought to leverage his appearance in court to benefit his campaign, releasing a video on Truth Social and X in which he described the prosecution’s intent to silence him because they are part of a Democratic machine attempting to silence his supporters on Election Day.

“They will try to take away my freedom because I will never let them take away your freedoms,” Trump tells a thunderous crowd. “They will try to silence me because I will never let them silence you. They want you silent, and I’m the only one who can save this nation because you know they’re not coming after me, they’re coming after you.”

“When I walk into that courtroom, I know I will have the love of 200 million Americans behind me, and I will be FIGHTING for the FREEDOM of 325 MILLION AMERICANS!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
